Religion & Community

We are proud to live in a city where people from all over the world are respected and made to feel welcome.

We believe in equality and have built an inclusive, multicultural society where considerations of culture, religion and lifestyle are embraced.

No matter your religious, ethnic or cultural background, there is a place for you in Perth.

Ethnic Communities

Our community is diverse. People from more than 200 different countries live, work and study in Western Australia. They speak as many as 170 languages and represent more than 100 religions.

Many nationalities have formed cultural groups for local and international members which allow them to socialise and connect with people who have similar interests and backgrounds.

If you’d like to join one of these groups while you’re studying in WA, visit the Office of Multicultural Interests website which lists all the ethnic and community groups operating in the state.

Religion

The most common religions practised in Western Australia are Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism and Judaism.

When you’re away from your family and religious community, it’s important to know that you’ll receive appropriate support. Homestay families or student accommodation providers will always respect and provide for your religious and dietary requirements.

Tertiary institutions in WA have chaplains who can put you in touch with members of the Baha’i, Buddhist, Hindu, Islamic, Jain, Jewish, Sikh and other faiths.
