Australia has increased the incentives for Maldives students to increase the skilled student workforce in regional parts of Australia. 1. Health Insurance Incentive By University of New England Australia

University of New England Australia has started an International postgraduate research program that not only provides a $26,000 per annum tax-free scholarship but also a free health insurance incentive to the overseas Maldives and other international students.

Coverage

The health insurance incentive covers prescriptions costs and hospital and medical visits cost. The Australian government also provides an incentive to purchase extra health insurance for major surgeries by paying less amount of money. Moreover, students can also extend their master’s degree to doctorate degree and can renew their scholarship again.

 

2. Extension in Post Study Work Visa

Overseas Maldivian students who wishes to extend their post-work visa can now extend it to an additional two years. Previously, this incentive was only confined to a 1-year extension. 

Eligibility criteria

For eligibility, Maldives students must reside in regional Australia. This incentive was initiated to increase overseas students in those parts of Australia where skilled overseas students are in less amount. Apart from this incentive, the government has also extended the time period of the temporary visa of Ph.D. students to five years.

4. Permanent Residency

Maldivian students who want to work in Australia can apply for permanent residency after working for 3 years in regional Australia.

Benefits

Skilled overseas Maldives students and other international students are provided with the incentive of priority visa and permanent residency processing. Other than this incentive, the Maldives students are offered attractive employment opportunities and a wide range of vocation choices.

 

4. Establishment Allowance and Contribution to Living Expenses

The Australian government has started commenced “Australia awards” scholarship that provides additional incentive of establishment allowances and living expense fees along with tuition fees.

Coverage

This scholarship is only available for masters and Ph.D. programs and is primarily targeting the participation of Asian and Maldives students. Moreover, this program also provides visa expenses, flight expenses, an opportunity for establishing global links, overseas health cover facilities, and support for students who have physical disabilities.

Eligibility criteria

Those students who are unable to speak proper English will also be provided with a free pre-English course by the university. For eligibility, the student must be 18be of 18 years or more. To proceed with these incentives, students must sign a contract with the Commonwealth of Australia.

 

5. New Territory Scholarship for Maldivian and International Students 

Not only Australian education ministry has started a fully-funded scholarship program, but also an initiative to provide extra scholarships to the Maldives and other international students. For the next 4 years, an additional four thousand scholarships will be provided.

Eligibility criteria

This incentive will be available to only those Maldives students who are willing to study in regional areas of Australia. Apart from Melbourne, Perth, Sydney, Gold coast, and Brisbane, all areas of Australia are categorized under regional areas and provide regional incentives to the students. The scholarship amount will be $15,000.

 

6. Stipend Incentive in International Postgraduate Research Scholarship

Deakin University has initiated an international postgraduate research program that provides tuition fees along with an additional incentive of stipends for the Maldives students.

Eligibility criteria

ToFor attainattaining the stipend incentive, the student must be enrolled in the HDR course. Moreover, if the student is getting incentives from other Australian scholarship programs, the student will not receive fees offset from Deakin University. Lastly, if the student is getting the financial support that is equivalent to 75% of the stipend fees, then student eligibility for stipend fees will be canceled.
